Help support the campaign to get every child learning to swim

Last month the ASA released the largest ever investigation into school swimming, which revealed that more than half of children aged 7 – 11 years cannot swim 25 metres.

Their research also found that around 40% of children were not in any type of swimming lessons, and one in ten children only gets access to a swimming pool on holiday.

You can download the full report here.

We believe that school swimming ensures that every child, regardless of their background or circumstances, has the opportunity to learn both a life saving skill, and is something that can keep them fit and healthy throughout their lives.

As part of their campaign we are trying to gain support from as many MPs as possible in an attempt to persuade Government to provide clear guidance and direction to primary schools on school swimming, which is a national curriculum subject but is not inspected by Ofsted.

If you feel passionate about this issue, and support our vision that every child has the right and opportunity to learn to swim, I would appreciate you supporting our campaign by writing or emailing your local MP.

The ASA have supplied a template letter here for you to adapt. Click here to download and copy and paste the text into a word document.

You can find your local MP here.

Remember to include your address and postcode, otherwise your MP cannot confirm whether or not you’re their constituent and may not reply.

Thank you for your support.
